Absences, Tardies & Early Pick Up
Absences & Tardies
If your child is absent or tardy, please send a note explaining the reason. An example of an absence note that contains all required information is available for you to copy at the end of this page. You have 3 days to report the absence.
All students arriving after the bell has rung at 8:30 need to report to the office where they will receive a tardy slip.
In order for a Tardy to be excused, a Doctor's note must be provided within 3 days.
According to the school district’s attendance policy, a parent must report his/her student’s absence to the school in writing, by phone, or in person, within 3 days. If the absence is not verified as an excusable absence, it shall be recorded as unexcused. Please refer to the district’s “Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians” booklet for further details on their attendance policy regarding “excused” and “unexcused” absences.
Per Educational Code 48260, “Any pupil subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education who is absent from school without valid excuse for 3 full days in one school year or tardy or absent for more than any 30-minute period during the school day without a valid excuse on 3 occasions in one school year, or any combination thereof, is truant and shall be reported to the attendance supervisor or to the superintendent of the school district.”
Continued truancy will result in parent conferences and may result in a referral to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
Students Leaving Early
An authorized parent or guardian must report to the school office to sign out the student. (Authorization to release a student must be clearly indicated on the Emergency Authorization Card. Persons on the Emergency Card must be 18 years or older. Students will not be released to minors.)
The parent or authorized adult must go to the Edison School office and follow these required procedures:
• Indicate the name of the child
• List the room or the teacher
• Write the reason for the student being taken from school
• Sign out each child so there is a record of his/her leaving school (Identification will be checked if adult is unknown to office staff)
In order for a Student Leaving Early to be excused, a Doctor's note must be provided within 3 days.
The office staff will make arrangements for releasing a pupil from his/her instructional area. At NO time:
• should a child be picked up directly from the classroom
• should the child wait outside the classroom or in front of the school for a parent to pick him/her
up at a prearranged time
• should a child walk home to meet his/her parent during the school day
CHILDREN WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO INDIVIDUALS NOT LISTED ON THE EMERGENCY CARD. Thus, it is very important to keep these cards current.

Transfers/Withdrawals
Please notify the teacher and the office at least two days before your child is withdrawn from school. This will assist us in clearing his/her records and will facilitate the transfer of the student. Any lost or missing school materials must be accounted for before records are sent to the new school.
Child Custody Agreements
Please keep the office informed of any child custody issues by providing court orders to the office. This information will be kept confidential, and in the best interest of the child, will be known by the teacher and those who dismiss children. If these arrangements include an address change of either parent, please update your records in the office.
